Emergency Funds Needed Because of Loss of Job by family member
Commonly referred to as the “snowflake condition” of birth defects because no two cases are the same, Spina Bifida can range from mild to severe. The severity depends on everything from the size of the opening to the location on the spine. Our clients are a vulnerable population in many respects.
Our population and their families often experience “out-of-pocket” medical expenses because their insurance provider does not cover a specific medication or equipment that is required and this often creates a hardship for the client and their families.
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) has already created emergency situations for our clients; some have experienced job loss (or reduction in hours). We have already received calls from our clients requesting emergency assistance for expenses such as groceries. This has caused us to draft a new policy regarding “emergency assistance” for items basic necessities.
Our mission is to “enrich and empower those affected by spina bifida” and as an organization we work very hard to make that happen.
