How to Navigate Heart Disease & Stroke during Covid-19

We know that individuals with heart disease and stroke are at a higher risk of complications due to COVID-19, and that they may be more at risk to contract the virus in the first place.  We are also seeing early evidence out of China that the virus is in some cases infecting the heart and causing issues such as heart failure.  All of this means that the American Heart Association and Go Red for Women will have an active role in helping understand and combat the virus.

This information underscores the importance of our work now more than ever.  120 million people are living with heart disease and are at risk.  And, heart disease remains our number one cause of death,  killing one in three women – our mothers, sisters, friends, aunts and coworkers.  People locally and around the world are depending on us to continue our work. As a science-based organization that cares about public health, the American Heart Association is following the most recent guidance available among leading global, national and local health authorities regarding our work-related events, meetings and gatherings. The health and well-being of our volunteers, members, staff and supporters is our No. 1 priority as our lifesaving mission and work continues.

With our changing landscape, our tools to raise crucial funds are also changing.  We need your help to continue funding education, outreach and research for women (like Golda, pictured here) to prevent, treat and beat heart disease and stroke.  You can help by making a donation today.
