Volunteer Trainer Program

Volunteer Trainers are part of the Service Dog in Training Program. They participate by bringing a service dog in training into their homes for socialization, basic obedience, house manners, basic service dog skills, and some advanced service dog skills until they are ready to return for advance training, typically between one and two years old. 4 Paws supplies the tools and information necessary to be successful in raising the service dog in training with the goal of becoming a service dog. We are committed to partnering with you to achieve this goal. - Volunteer Trainer homes must be within 3 hours of 4 Paws for Ability, Xenia, OH - Must be at least 18 years of age - Complete an online training program and attend an in-person orientation at 4 Paws for Ability - Comply with 4 Paws policies and procedures and provide a stable, safe environment for a puppy to live

Onsite Volunteer

As a nonprofit organization, we depend heavily on volunteers. Volunteers socialize, exercise, and groom our service dogs in training. We allow all ages to volunteer at our facility. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Volunteers are required to serve at least four hours a month for at least the next three months. Volunteers are needed daily and can volunteer between the hours of 10am and 10pm. There are three steps to become a volunteer: Attend an orientation, complete online training, and go through an onsite training.

About us 4 Paws for Ability enriches the lives of children with disabilities by training and placing quality, task-trained service dogs. This provides increased independence for the children, and assistance to their families. And 4 Paws also works with veterans from recent conflicts who’ve lost the use of their limbs or their hearing while in active combat. In all cases, the results speak for themselves. Lives are transformed.
