| About us | In 1978, three courageous Canton women decided to take domestic violence out of the closet and help victims too powerless to help themselves. Nancy Boylan, Helen Syrios and Gertrude Kennedy were compassionate women who saw a problem and created a solution step-by-step, donation-by-donation, victim-by-victim, volunteer-by-volunteer. These were the Founding Mothers who lived to see their dream become a reality. Since then, DVPI has offered safety, compassion, hope and healing to victims of domestic violence and their families. In 2019, we sheltered 397 women, men and children in our two emergency shelters and provided more than 13,969 nights of shelter. 3,900 of these victims were served through shelter, legal advocacy, community education, outreach and medical advocacy. In addition, we received more than 3,400 emergency calls from individuals in our community to our 24-hour hotline. |
