About us | Fostering Independence currently serves Summit County youth who are aging out of the foster care system and youths aged 18-21 who lost parental support. Generally, at age 18, assistance and custodial rights cease and many foster teens are left to fend for themselves. Fostering Independence (FI) aims to provide resources, mentoring and support to at-risk, emancipated youth transitioning from foster care and those lacking parental support. By providing them with basic household goods like new dishes, clean towels & sheets, along with professional mentors to provide guidance and advice, FI hopes to lift these youth up with the confidence and opportunity they need to succeed. FI connects these youth with training, services, positive supportive networks and opportunities to shadow professionals, which studies have shown are associated with positive adjustments to life on their own. |
