Ways to help | Saved Trained Adopt Remain Together (START) TeamJob Description/Purpose: To teach basic obedience to an assigned shelter dog working with instructors at Dayton Dog Training Club, Inc. for success in new adoptive home and to decrease length of stay at the shelter.Foster ParentCare for animals in your home that need a little extra care before they can go up for adoption. Typically, animals requiring foster care are too young, inured or sick to go up for adoption. Foster parents provide the much needed time and attention these special needs animals require.Education AssistantConduct education programs regarding responsible pet ownership, bite prevention, animal cruelty, and pet overpopulation at schools and various locations throughout the community.Cat Assistance TeamTo help control overpopulation by humanely trapping stray or feral cats on scheduled days and then transporting them to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton to be spayed or neutered.Pet Paw-parazziPurpose: To get great photographs of our animals up for adoption. This team of professional photographers and animal handlers do a variety of jobs that promote our pets. They take photos and videos of our animals in the building and even sometimes at our offsite locations and at events. Their wonderful work can be seen on our website, Petfinder, other websites, t.v., newspapers, brochures, etc.Meowza Cat BoutiqueJob Description/Purpose: To assist Meowza staff in day to day store operations, including cleaning cat cages, adoptions and assisting customers.Pawde SquadClean cat cages and dog kennels on an on-going or on-call basis. Provide fresh bedding, toys, water and food to the animals. Observe behavior and health and alerts the staff to any issues which may affect the animal’s adoptability.Bunny BrigadeTo exercise and socialize rabbits in the shelter, by taking them individually into bonding rooms or outside in the designated area for playtime on the Humane Society of Greater Dayton property.Feline FriendsTo exercise and socialize cats in the shelter, by taking them individually into bonding rooms for playtime on the Humane Society of Greater Dayton property. Official volunteers observe behavior and health and alerts the staff to any issues which may effect the animal’s adoptability.Office AngelsAssist with data entry, mailings and general clerical including greeting and directing customers and answering phones in the development office or at the front desk during open hours.Canine CrewTo exercise and socialize dogs, in the shelter, by taking them individually outside for walks and playtime on the Humane Society of Greater Dayton property. This alleviates stress and gives the dogs much needed exercise thus increasing their chances of being adopted. It is also a great opportunity for teaching the dogs basic socialization skills.Pet TherapyJob Description/Purpose: To provide temporary animal companionship for residents of assisted living and senior centers, allowing the animals to socialize outside of the facility. |
