About us | At Meals on Wheels of Southwest OH & Northern KY, (formerly Wesley Community Services) we deliver food to seniors who might otherwise go hungry. Each of our meals—prepared in our own restaurant-grade kitchen—is tasty and nutritious. But what we do is about far more than food, it’s about seeing that our seniors flourish as they deserve to. Our interactions also allow us to keep an eye out for our seniors, to spot anything troublesome or worrisome. In other words, it’s not just our food that’s helping seniors remain healthy, but also our attention and genuine concern. While there are other local organizations that provide Meals on Wheels services, we are the only organization in our service area that has adopted the national organization's brand. We are also, proudly, the largest provider of Meals on Wheels services in the area. Our roots trace back to 1937 when we opened Wesley House, a home for low-income seniors. In the 1940s, the increased need for senior housing, especially for those who were indigent, became a community-wide concern. In 1981, the Meals on Wheels Program was added to feed seniors on the Wesley House, then called Wesley Hall, waiting list. This program would grow rapidly to serve the many seniors who would otherwise be without adequate nutrition, companionship, and someone to check in on them (This program now includes Pet Portions and Pet Care, which provide seniors food for their four-legged friends and vouchers for vet care). We added Independent Living Assistance in 2015 to help seniors manage some tasks, such as paying bills and scheduling doctor’s appointments, so they can remain independent in their homes. To all of the individual and corporate donors, our volunteers, and employees, we thank you for all that you have done to make life for our seniors happier, healthier, and safer. |
