SOTENI International
Ways to help | Kenyan InternshipsInterns in Kenya work primarily in rural settings and provide support to the community and its leaders. The interns also learn about the rich cultures of Kenya while sharing their own gifts, experiences, and insights. SOTENI's goal is to enable interns to be AIDS-prevention advocates in both Kenya and their home countries.InternshipsInterns in Cincinnati work on projects that advance the strategic goals of SOTENI International while gaining experience. Projects can include fund-raising, volunteer management, grant writing, and other administrative functions.Cincinnati VolunteersIn the Cincinnati office, assignments might include organizing special events, creating publicity materials, updating the website, writing proposals, assisting with fund-raising campaigns, refining donor lists, and completing clerical tasks.SOTENI ClubsStudent-run clubs with educational information about HIV/AIDS, SOTENI, and/or Kenya. About us | Since our organization's beginnings in 2002, SOTENI International has continually expanded the ways in which we're able to help. Led by physician-epidemiologist Victoria Wells Wulsin, SOTENI Kenya began in 2003. The group developed the model of Villages of Hope, with the goal of establishing a sustainable, grassroots community. When a group of American and African volunteers formed SOTENI, each member was passionately committed to preventing HIV/AIDS and to reducing its effects. At that time, the mission was simple: Empower orphans of AIDS to lead the fight against AIDS and to prevent another generation from succumbing. A locally elected management committee led this community, supporting children affected by HIV/AIDS, especially those heading families. The group found that the best way to empower those needing help was to strengthen their communities, and, in turn, the communities could empower vulnerable people. |
