How you help | Volunteer tutors are the "Literacy Angels" who represent the GLUE of the Tutoring Services. The Tutor Volunteers are the support and true reason for the learner’s success of mastering reading. When a volunteer is paired with a student, it is often a one to two-year tutoring assignment that meets one or even two times a week for a little over an hour session. The tutor is responsible for planning each lesson and writing a brief summary to submit in the student calendar report, detailing progress at the end of each month. The Tutoring Program could not exist without the investment of time from the volunteers. |

About us | The Literacy Council offers free tutoring services to adults 18 and older through one-on-one tutoring provided by a trained volunteer tutor. Literacy services include help in reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and improvement in English speaking, reading and writing for individuals of other cultures. Adult learner attends an informal interview and assessment to help determine their base start. Tutor pair typically meet at the local public library. |
