Verb Ballets
About us | One of Northeast Ohio’s oldest and most respected dance companies, Verb Ballets has gained a reputation for artistic excellence and exemplary community engagement since its founding as The Cleveland Repertory Project in 1987. Under the long-standing leadership of Dr. Margaret Carlson, former principal dancer for Cleveland Ballet, and Richard Dickinson, MFA, former Ohio Ballet dancer, the company is committed to the creation and mounting of dance works of the highest caliber. As a contemporary ballet company, the dancers combine classical ballet training with strong artistry to bring audiences together. Verb Ballets is proud to present work that fosters emerging choreographers and maintains the rich legacy of dance in Ohio by choreographers including Heinz Poll (Ohio Ballet) and Ian Horvath (Cleveland Ballet). Our vision is to be a nationally recognized leader in performing dance works of the highest caliber; a catalyst to promote learning, nurture wellness, and encourage dialogue about the dance art form; and a thought leader in cultivating dance appreciation and support through the region. In 2018, Verb completed the buildout of its new 6,000 square foot home located in Shaker Heights on the border of the Lee-Harvard neighborhood in Cleveland. In addition to serving as the company home base, we welcome the community in for classes and workshops. Our outreach provides dance experiences and participatory activities for families, children and the elderly, as well as the community; including visiting schools, libraries, community centers, museums, senior living centers, and college course partnerships. Verb Ballets brings movement activities to almost 25,000 each year. |
