FamiliesFORWARD is always in search of volunteer tutors who would enjoy working one-on-one or in small groups with students. Companies, college students, and others are all welcome to give their time to help students who are struggling to understand reading, math and other learning concepts.
The intensive Homework Help program uses certified teachers (often retired) to reteach math and literacy skills through the homework designated by students’ daytime classroom teachers. Tutors typically work with small groups of students several times a week.
Mentors in the Hampton Mentoring Program read with a student and work on completing activities that are aligned to Ohio’s New Learning standards. The LSDMC is the primary governing body for each school in the district. This committee gives insight and input into important decisions that greatly impact students’ lives and shape their educational experiences. The committee is composed of parents, teachers, staff members, students and community members. The LSDMC meets nine times each year.
The ILT sets the instructional focus and makes the instructional decisions for the school. ILT responsibilities include: developing, reviewing and evaluating the instructional program, monitoring and improving school operations and procedures that affect instruction, planning and monitoring training of staff, and creating and maintaining a safe and orderly school environment. Some of the ways that parents, caregivers, grandparents, or other volunteers can become involved are helping your child with homework, especially reading together, and giving time to the school helping out in classrooms, lunchrooms and on the playground, as well as volunteers to help with field trips or in the office.
Initial Level Certification is required for all tutors interested in a position with our campuses. Initial Level Certification requirements are 45 hours of lecture and 100 hours of supervised practicum over the course of a year. Most of our tutors also acquire Advanced Level Certification, which takes another two years of study.
Individuals interested in applying to our Initial Level Certification Training Program must have a bachelor’s degree. Responsible for the purchased and donated acquisition of food, evaluate weekly inventory, and manage weekly orders with the Freestore Foodbank and other food resources, for pantry needs, parish needs, and neighborhood functions as needed. Manage communications with all volunteers. (Approx. 15 hours a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.)
Two people with muscle are needed to pick up food items and meats on Friday mornings. This volunteer opportunity requires driving to 2 locations in the Rookwood area, lifting and stacking supplies in the cargo van, transporting the items back to the food pantry and then moving them from the van to the shelves.
