We build character and promote values for over 700 boys and girls K-8th grades through organized sports. Volunteers help mentor and teach the children of the Friars Club. The Friars children all come from varied socio-economic backgrounds and are coached in life skills and the fundamentals of basketball.
Our Learning Center offers free academic tutoring during the school year for children in our sports, academic or leadership programs. We offer assistance for children ages 5-17. We need tutors for a variety of disciplines such as English (English for speakers of other languages), basic writing and reading, basic mathematics, computer skills, and college coursework.
Bring a group and volunteer for a single day project.
Each evening, participants trickle in to play games, work on homework, color, and have a snack before the class begins an organized craft together. As youth develop their creative abilities, they are also acquiring life skills by discovering means of positive self-expression and cooperation with peers.
Students will design and plan a clothing giveaway “store” and sort donated clothing items and plan and organize items for future display in a giveaway store. (Need 4-6 self –motivated students – art, design majors)
